It's difficult being on a long road to a goal without small milestones along the way. Without them, it's easy to become discouraged with slower than expected progress or a lack of immediate results.
We don't make immediate goals and yet we expect immediate results.
Instead of setting one goal, set your ultimate goal and work backwards to smaller mini-goals to use as milestones on the journey. This way, when you encounter the inevitable set-backs that come, you are better prepared and upon identifying the roadblock, you can design an immediate way forward to conquer that hurdle.
Small wins will keep you from becoming disheartened and will keep you motivated towards continuing your journey towards the next mini-goal and toward the ultimate one.
